Lucy Clout: Work in Progress

Join us at the Mule on Rouge in Bridge Street where Lucy Clout, our current artist-in-residence with Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival will show a number of recent films and discuss her upcoming exhibition at this year's Festival.

At the midpoint of her six-month residency Lucy Clout will present a screening of previous works which explore themes of loneliness, intimacy and kinship including:

The Extra’s Ever-Moving Lips, 2014, 8 mins  Two forensic lip-readers attempt to transcribe the words an extra’s speaks in the background of an Australian soap opera. The video asks what happens when speech created primarily as a disposable language of kinship, comfort and context is preserved and available for re-watching and interpretation.

Warm Bath, 2016, 11 mins The video begins as an investigation into the desire to record the unremarkable passing of time and becomes a looking-based experiment in permanence, place, leaky systems and intimacy. ‘Warm Bath’ documents structures by which people maintain themselves – physically, socially and via repetition/routine.

Lucy Clout works primarily in video. She studied at Goldsmiths London, and The Royal College of Art.  Recent exhibitions include Jerwood Space, London, CCA, Glasgow (2015) and Limoncello, London (2016). Recent screenings include Raven Row, Tate Britain and Anthology Film Archives, New York (all 2017). Lucy was awarded the Jerwood/Film and Video Umbrella award in 2015.

To attend, please book here. Places are free but limited.

Light refreshments, soft drinks and wine will be served.
